Homemade Apple Cinnamon Tea

From candles to essential oils to freshly baked cookies, there are plenty of methods to make your house smell cozy and welcoming, but this cinnamon apple tea is one of my favorite ways! I love that it’s not just making the kitchen feel snug and cheerful, but you actually get to end up with a tasty hot drink in your hands, too.

You can buy cinnamon apple tea bags at the grocery store, but they just don’t compare with the fresh ingredients and delicious smells of making this homemade tea from scratch.

And as an added bonus, you get all the health benefits of fresh apples, lemon, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Like antioxidants, vitamin C, anti-inflammatory properties, and more.

Lastly, this perfect fall drink is really easy to make. Just collect all your ingredients and throw them into a pot, and you’ll soon have a delicious apple tea! It’s also a great way to use up that pile of apples that always seems to be around during the chilly fall days.

Spiced Apple Cinnamon Tea Ingredients

  • One whole apple. Fresh apple slices the main ingredient of this simple drink. You can use any kind of apple, but sweet apples work especially well. Fresh seasonal apples from your local orchard will give you the most refreshing fall taste – but store bought apples work just fine, too! No need to have apple juice on hand for this easy recipe.
  • Cinnamon sticks. Cinnamon sticks are made from the bark of cinnamon trees, and the give your tea that slightly spicy flavor. They also smell SO good while they’re simmering! If you don’t have cinnamon sticks, you can substitute them for ground cinnamon.
  • Fresh ginger. Ginger is one of my favorite flavors, and another important ingredient that gives this cozy apple cinnamon tea that warming spice taste. Ginger also has numerous health benefits, from helping with nausea to possibly lowering blood sugar levels and even reducing cancer risk.
  • Cloves. Whole cloves are another important part of what makes this apple tea recipe smell so delicious while it’s simmering! If you don’t have whole cloves, you can also use ground cloves.
  • Lemon. I like to add a slice of lemon for good measure! That little bit of lemon juice that simmers into your drink adds to the fresh flavor of the tea. It also gives you a little vitamin C boost.
  • Honey or maple syrup (optiona). You can add honey, maple syrup, or another sweetener to taste to sweeten this delicious drink.
  • Black tea bag (optional). I sometimes like to add a black tea bag to the mix to make this a little more “tea flavored” (because really, it’s just a blend of delicious flavors otherwise). Plus, you get a little caffeine boost, too. But, it’s still delicious with or without the black tea.

How to Make Spiced Apple Cinnamon Tea

This versatile drink is so simple to make, and you can customize it in so many different ways. Here’s how we like to make our hot apple cinnamon spice tea!

  1. First, prepare your ingredients by washing and slicing an apple. Leave the skin on the apple pieces. (Sweet variates like fuji apples and gala apples work well, but any variety will do!)
  2. Next, add all of the ingredients to a medium saucepan with 3 cups of water.

  3. Bring to a boil on the stove top. Reduce to low heat, cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and keep covered. You can also add your black tea bag in here if you’d like. Let your tea sit for 30-60 minutes or until it reaches your desired strength. (If you decide to add a tea bag, let it steep for around 5 minutes and then take it out.)
  5. Strain your delicious tea into a mug and add a bit of honey or maple syrup if you’d like. Enjoy!
