Raw milk is delicious any time of day. It’s easy to digest (thanks to the good bacteria that aren’t killed off in pasteurization), packed with healthy fats, and full of bioavailable vitamins and minerals.
We’ve been buying raw milk from a local farm for awhile now. And while it’s absolutely delicious plain, sometimes it’s fun to turn it into a milkshake to make it even more dense. This milkshake recipe has also come in handy a few times when the kids weren’t motivated to drink a lot of milk. Milkshakes always get guzzled!
Benefits of Raw Milk
Carefully produced raw milk is full of chock-full of benefits and provides incredible nutrition and support. Raw milk hasn’t been put through the pasteurization process, which destroys numerous enzymes and probiotics and reduces helpful vitamins and minerals in the milk.
Raw milk has been shown to decrease allergies, eczema, asthma, and more.
And another huge pro of raw milk is that many people who cannot consume conventional dairy can actually drink raw milk. This is because of the enzyme lactase which is still present in unpasteurized milk. This enzyme breaks down the lactose so that it can be easily digested even by people who have been labeled as lactose intolerant.
By drinking raw milk, you get all of the beneficial qualities of the milk that are normally lost in the pasteurization process. It’s excellent for your gut and immune system!
However, it is important that drink raw milk from a reputable source. While we don’t have any plans to get our own dairy cow anytime soon, we love supporting a local farming family in our area where we get our raw milk.

Ingredients
- Whole Raw Milk. Creates the richest, smoothest, creamiest milkshake. You could also substitute with pasteurized whole milk from the grocery store, but it just doesn’t quite have the same affect. 🙂
- Frozen banana – We like to use frozen to get the best texture, but you could also use fresh bananas. Either way, whether you use them fresh or freeze them first, ripe bananas will give you the best flavor.
- Vanilla Extract. A splash of vanilla adds a delicious, delicate flavor to your shake.
- Honey. We use raw honey from our bees, and it adds the perfect sweetness. You could also substitute the honey with maple syrup instead.
- Cinnamon powder. Cinnamon is always good, but the Kirkland Saigon Ground Cinnamon will make you feel like you’ve never smelled cinnamon before in your life. It’s amazing. And FULL of health benefits, too! It’s well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, regulating blood sugar, fighting inflammation, and more.
Other optional ingredients
If you want to play around with adding different nutritional qualities and tastes to your milkshake, here are some other ingredients to try! We love adding berries to our milkshakes. A full blender of delicious, nutrient-dense milkshake makes an easy and filling addition to a quick family lunch!
- Fresh cream
- Raw eggs
- Real vanilla bean
- Frozen berries
- Yogurt
- Peanut butter
- Real salt
How to Make a Raw Milk Milkshake
This milkshake is so easy to make. Once you have your ingredients, it literally takes less than a minute!
- Measure out your ingredients into a blender. (Or just eyeball it – it’s honestly hard to mess this recipe up!)
- Blend on high until smooth.
- Pour into a glass and top with a bit more ground cinnamon (optional).
- If you have extra, you can store it in the fridge, but you’ll need to blend it again before drinking as it will settle a bit.
What Does a Raw Milk Milkshake Taste Like?
Raw milk has a richer, fuller flavor than pasteurized milk from the grocery store. The best way I can describe drinking raw milk is like this: raw milk compared to pasteurized whole milk is kind of like the difference between pasteurized whole milk and pasteurized skim milk. It’s just so much creamier and more satisfying!
Some people who first start drinking raw milk notice a different flavor that they describe as a grassy taste. Keep in mind that the taste of your milk can also vary based on what the cows are eating. Cows on rich, spring grass will generally produce a creamier milk than during the winter months.
