Making Herbal Popsicles

Herbs, herbs, herbs! So simple, yet so effective! I’ve seen some drastic differences in my own health since prioritizing herbs. And although it’s hard to truly measure the difference these powerful plants make, I’m personally pretty convinced that consuming herbs is one of the best ways to nourish your body. (And it doesn’t hurt that a lot of herbs are free in your backyard! Try foraging for nettlesclover, or mint, just to name a few!)

Herbal teas are an obvious and easy way to consume the many vitamins and minerals that herbs offer, but sometimes it’s fun to try herbs in a different form, especially during the scorching temperatures of summer. If fruity cool pops are more your “cup of tea”, you’ll love experimenting with herbal popsicles! Especially for kids, throwing your favorite flavors into simple popsicle molds can make up some of the fondest memories of summer.

Watermelon and clover flowers make delicious, flavorful, and beautiful popsicles. But you can also play around with mint leaves, lavender, fresh berries, hibiscus, frozen herbal teas, coconut water, fresh lime juice… The possibilities are endless! There’s no added sugar necessary to make fresh herbs and fruits taste absolutely wonderful!

Just throw your ingredients in a blender, making sure to add enough liquid (a tea, coconut water, or juice base works well in most cases). Then fill your molds, freeze, and enjoy some nourishing herbal ice pops! In hot temperatures, homemade popsicles are perfect for serving to kids or adults.

Benefits of Clover

Both white and red clover are packed full of health benefits. They’re also so good for your lawn, so if your yard is full of them, enjoy it!! (They protect from erosion, reduce weeds, and pollinators love them!)

Some of the health benefits of clover include:

  • Immune support
  • Supports the digestive system
  • Skin healing
  • Improves bone and joint health

And the best part is, harvesting clover is free! Just make sure to avoid picking in areas that have been sprayed with pesticides. You can also dry the flowers for making clover tea to get these amazing benefits during the winter months.

FAQs

Can you make homemade popsicles without popsicle molds?

Yes! Just pour your juice mixture into small paper cups and set them in the freezer upside down. You can lay plastic wrap or aluminum foil over the opening of the cups and pop some popsicle sticks in the middles.

How do you get homemade popsicles out of the molds easily?

If you have trouble getting your popsicle out of the mold neatly, sometimes the problem is that it hasn’t been frozen long enough. Leave it overnight for best results. You can also run warm water over the outside of the popsicle mold for about 20 seconds to loosen it.
