On being a happy mother:
A happy mother can think clearly. A happy mother has more emotional and physical energy and bandwidth to give to her children. A happy mother is interesting. A happy mother brings life to the home. A happy mother is more productive. A happy mother is more patient. A happy mother is calm and content.
There’s a line between the self-care movement and having a lifestyle that leads to happy motherhood. Good home management, discipline, structure, planning/structuring time for a mother’s personal interests, not over-scheduling/overcommitting, and – perhaps above all – a joyful heart leads to happy motherhood.
I don’t think it’s selfish to say “no” to things, not overcommit, and even pursue interests outside of motherhood – responsibly. A mother who is full of joy and life rather than anxiety, stress, overburden, and confusion blesses the home incalculably.
A happy mother affects every moment of her childrens’ day and also blesses her husband greatly. A happy mother is one of the greatest gifts a child can have.
Ultimately, happiness and joy are only found in Jesus Christ – the Savior of sinners and hope of all mankind. Trust Him and walk in His ways and you will find joy!
