Are Date Energy Bars Healthy?
These date bars are naturally free of refined sugar and are an excellent healthy snack for when you have a little bit of a sweet tooth. They’re made with whole food ingredients that have natural sweetness and are the perfect healthy treat for at home and on the road.
This delicious recipe is made with all dry ingredients that you might already have in your pantry – whole dates and other fruits, seeds, nuts, chia seeds, and some cinnamon. No honey, maple syrup, chocolate chips, or other processed sugar needed!
Ingredients You’ll Need
Here’s the basic recipe that I use the make my date bars:
- 1 cup Medjool dates (just make sure they are pitted dates, or be sure to pit them yourself if not)
- 1/2 cup apricots
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- 2 Tablespoons chia seeds
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
How to Make 10-Minute Date Energy Bars
Step 1: Gather all your ingredients together and toss them in a food processor. Turn it on until everything is thoroughly chopped and mixed together. If you chop them too fine, though, they can be too crumbly, so don’t go overboard.
Step 2: Next, line a 9″ x 9″ square baking pan with parchment paper. For thicker date bars, a loaf pan also works well.
Step 3: Press your mixture into the pan to form a nice square (or rectangle).
Step 4: Lift the parchment paper out of the pan and cut your date bars into squares.
Step 5: Stack them neatly in an airtight container (I just use a basic plastic tupperware container).
Step 6: Store your date bars at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
